Match 1
Bianca Belair vs Mia Yim
(referee: Jessika Carr)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Bianca Belair wins via pinfall after the KOD
Time: 8:07

Match Thoughts
Good match. Belair took Yim lightly at time (as is her habit with any opponent), and that allowed Yim to show some of her strikes. I think this was a good battle of power between both women. I don’t think the result was a surprise, but I did like the match.

Backstage
Cathy Kelley asks the War Raiders, Ricochet, and Pete Dunne who will represent them in the main event tonight. Ricochet and Dunne both feel like it should be them, but Hanson says it will be him.

Backstage
Cathy Kelley welcomes Matt Riddle. Riddle is happy with his debut and with his place in NXT. Kassius Ohno walks up. Ohno says the “bro show” is trash. Riddle suggests that they have a match next week, but Ohno just walks away.

Match 2
Karissa Rivera vs Lacey Evans
(referee: DA Brewer)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Lacey Evans wins via pinfall after the Woman’s Right
Time: 1:50

Match Thoughts
A squash, though Rivera got a little offense.

Ring Area
After the match, Lacey Evans says NXT is full of “classless nasties.” She says that if the other women in NXT don’t get classy, she’s going to punch them.

Match 3
Hanson vs Kyle O’Reilly (NXT Tag Champ)
(referee: Darryl Sharma; stipulation: the winner’s team receives the advantage in the War Games match)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Kyle O’Reilly wins via pinfall after hitting Hanson with the tag title belt
Time: 11:59

Match Thoughts
Very good match. I love watching Kyle O’Reilly wrestle, and watching him pick apart the much bigger Hanson was great. There were lots of clever moments in the match where it felt like O’Reilly and Hanson were really having as much of a battle of wits as they were just having a battle. Of course, as the match went on their teammates started coming down to the ring and a brawl happened, and it worked really well. It was a clever preview for War Games, because everyone came out one or two at a time. In that way, the advantage of the people around the ring went back and forth. So yeah, this was very well done all around.

Show Impressions
Good show. I was maybe a little surprised that most of the matches at Takeover were only hyped with videos and not with people in the ring or backstage (the War Games match itself being the obvious exception), but I think the show still worked really well for the final one before the big show.

Match of the Night
Kyle O’Reilly vs Hanson
I like Hanson, and Kyle O’Reilly can have a great match with anyone.
