Vic Joseph and Kayla Braxton talk about tonight’s show and the beginning of the playoffs.
Earlier today, Jinder Mahal said he feels confident. Alicia Fox plans to lead Mahalicia to victory.
Vic and Kayla welcome Ember Moon and her new partner Curt Hawkins. Hawkins is excited, but Moon seems a lot less happy with the situation. Moon says tonight will be a challenge, but she’s overcome many challenges in her career. Hawkins is just excited about going on vacation.
Moon and Hawkins leave, so Joseph and Braxton welcome Bayley and Finn Balor. Bayley is confident that they will win tonight, but Lio Rush walks up laughing. Rush says Bobby Lashley and Mickie James are going to run right through Bayley and Balor.
MMC Playoff Quarter Final Match
Alicia Fox & Jinder Mahal w/ The Singh Brothers vs Ember Moon & Curt Hawkins
(referee: Dan Engler)
Result: Jinder Mahal pins Curt Hawkins after The Khallas
This was fun. Moon and Hawkins knew that they wanted to keep Moon in the match as much as possible, so when Hawkins had to enter the ring, he was very hesitant. Hawkins got a little offense, but Mahal began to dominate. Moon and Fox ended up getting tagged back in, but Hawkins got overconfident (and forgot the rules of the match) which caused some amusing trouble for his team. I liked that this match was mostly serious, and it had a light yet engaging story within it.
Awe-Ska are looking past next week on their road to victory.
Jimmy Uso and Naomi are coming for Miz and Asuka.
Kayla Braxton asks Mahalicia how they feel. Alicia Fox is happy with Mahal’s performance.
MMC Playoff Quarter Final Match
Mickie James & Bobby Lashley w/ Lio Rush vs Bayley & Finn Balor
(referee: John Cone)
Result: Bayley pins Mickie James after the Bayley to Belly
Good match. I liked what everyone did here. Lashley mocked Balor after the beating Balor took on RAW last night, and their time against each other in this match was more serious than most Mixed Match Challenge matches. Bayley and Mickie James also looked good against each other. Lio Rush got involved when the women were legal in the ring, and that drew a lot of excitement into the final segments of the match. I think this match probably got me the most invested in any MMC match so far this season.
Carmella wants to go to Madrid when Fabulous Truth wins the tournament. R-Truth would rather go to Spain.
Charlotte plan to end the tournament with Extreme Flair.
This was a good show. I think the adding of stakes (winning the last spot in the Royal Rumble matches) and the switch to an elimination format really helped build interest and investment for me. I like the round robin format to start because it lets us see how everyone interacts with everyone, but now the matches actually feel important. Finally letting the viewers know exactly how the tournament actually works helped a lot as well.
Match of the Night
B’n’B vs Country Dominance
This is my favorite match of the MMC so far.
