Drake Maverick addresses the critics concerning his “antics” surrounding the 24/7 title. People have been questioning Maverick’s decisions, so he is going to let the question of who will get a title match against Tony Nese be decided in a fatal four way match tonight.
Intro Video
“Hail to the Crown” by CFO$ featuring From Ashes to New
Match 1
Gentleman Jack Gallagher vs Chad Gable
(referee: Mike Chioda)
Result: Chad Gable wins via Count Out
Time: 11:51
Match Thoughts
Good match. Ultimately this felt like a warmup for a longer, better match, but this was a lot of fun. It was a nice surprise to see Gable, and I’m excited to actually get to see him wrestle some decently long matches on 205 Live. The finish tonight wasn’t fully satisfying, but the way this match ended left it open for both men to move forward on equal ground.
Backstage
Mike and Maria Kanellis are furious with Drake Maverick. Kanellis thinks he should be in tonight’s main event, and he should also have fought Chad Gable. Maverick tells Mike that he hasn’t done anything to deserve what he’s requesting. Maria questions Maverick’s dedication as GM of 205 Live.
Video
From last week, Noam Dar is concerned about his safety on 205 Live after the attack from Drew Gulak. If management can’t provide a safe work environment, Dar might just move to NXT UK permanently.
Match 2
The Singh Brothers vs Dos Locales
(referee: Danilo Anfibio)
Result: Samir Singh wins via pinfall after the Bollywood Blast
Time: 3:27
Match Thoughts
Squash. Only one of the masked guys was ever legal in the match, and the Singh brothers danced more than they wrestled.
Backstage
Sarah Schreiber welcomes Tony Nese. Nese talks about his possible opponents, and he says he’s ready for whomever he will face.
Match 3
Fatal Four Way Cruiserweight Title Number One Contender Match
Akira Tozawa vs Oney Lorcan vs Humberto Carrillo vs Drew Gulak
(referee: Ryan Tran; watching in the back: Tony Nese)
Result: Akira Tozawa and Drew Gulak both pin each other in a roll-up, so it is later decided that they both won the match
Time: 13:35
Match Thoughts
Great match! This started immediately with Drew Gulak running and kicking Humberto Carrillo. From there, the pace remained high throughout most of the match, and everyone looked great. There was flying, fighting, and great wrestling. This was a lot of fun, and I loved how they built up to the finish.
I’m almost never a fan of people taking advantage of there being no DQ in matches like this, but I think it was very well done tonight. Ariya Daivari came out late in the match to attack Oney Lorcan, and a second referee came out to chase Daivari away. The referee stayed to check on Lorcan, and that allowed the finish to be contested since there were two refs who saw two different things in the final pinfall. I think it was very smart all around.
Ring Area
There is confusion after the match. The referee of the match, Ryan Tran, thinks Akira Tozawa won. Danilo Anfibio, the referee who came out when Ariya Daivari interfered (by hitting Oney Lorcan with a chair during the match), thinks Drew Gulak won. Drake Maverick comes down to the ring, and he doesn’t know who won.
Show Impressions
This was a very good show. Seeing Chad Gable was great. Gable inadvertently giving fuel to Mike and Maria Kanellis’s feud with Drake Maverick was great. The Singh Brothers dancing was fun. And the main event was great.
Match of the Night
Fatal Four Way
Even though there wasn’t really a winner (or there were two winners depending on how you look at it), this was a great match.
