Match 1
Tommaso Ciampa vs Angel Garza
(referee: Jessika Carr)
Result: Tommaso Ciampa wins via pinfall after Willow’s Bell
Time: 3:21
Match Thoughts
Good match. I think these two could have a great match if given more time, but this was really a showcase for Ciampa’s return to the NXT ring. Ciampa certainly looked impressive and ready to go.
Ring Area
After the match, the Undisputed Era comes out to the stage. As they walk towards the ring, Ciampa sets up a chair and sits down. As the rest of Undiputed Area surrounds the ring, Kyle O’Reilly walks over and tosses a USB drive to Mauro Ranallo. O’Reilly suggests that Mauro take a look at what’s on the drive, then the Undisputed Era leaves while smiling.
Backstage
Keith Lee thinks about his upcoming match.
Video
We are treated to the video on the drive O’Reilly gave Ranallo. On the video, we see the aftermath of Undisputed Era attacking Velveteen Dream. Cole warns everyone, especially Ciampa, that if they mess with UE, then they will get what Dream got.
Match 2
Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel w/ Alexander Wolfe
(referee: DA Brewer)
Result: Marcel Barthel pins Oney Lorcan after a tandem powerbomb (Aichner) and diving European uppercut (Barthel)
Time: 5:14 (1 break)
Match Thoughts
Very good match. This was hard-hitting and non-stop. Each team had extended sequences of control, and both teams had some great tandem offense. I’d love to see this match again.
Video
A look at Johnny Gargano.
Backstage
Cathy Kelley welcomes Johnny Gargano. Gargano doesn’t know how he feels about Tommaso Ciampa being back in NXT.
Backstage
Dominik Dijakovic warms up for his match in front of a banner with his name and logo on it.
Match 3
Io Shirai vs Kayden Carter
(referee: Jessika Carr)
Result: Io Shirai wins via pinfall after a diving moonsault
Time: 2:38
Match Thoughts
This could have been a squash, but Carter put up a good fight. Carter had some good moves that had Shirai reeling at times, but Shirai quickly regained control of the match. Both women looked good tonight.
Ring Area
After the match, Io Shirai says that she should be Baszler’s next challenger, not Rhea or Bianca. Rhea Ripley immediately comes out and heads to the ring. Rhea takes the mic from Shirai and says she’s going to put Baszler in her place next week. nd if Shirai ever says Rhea’s name again, Rhea has no problem shutting Shirai up as well. Shirai yells at Rhea before leaving the ring.
Backstage
BOA speaks in Chinese as he warms up.
Ring Area
Cathy Kelley asks William Regal about Velveteen Dream’s condition. Regal says Dream won’t be able to compete for a while, but Roderick Strong will still defend the North American Title next week. Strong’s challenger will be the winner of Keith Lee versus Dominik Dijakovic.
Match 4
NXT North American Title Number One Contender Match
Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic
(referee: Darryl Sharma)
Result: the match ends in a No Contest when Roderick Strong interferes
Time: 11:45 (1 break)
Match Thoughts
This was another great battle between these two men with another bath of extremely memorable moments. I kind of shook my head when I heard they would be facing each other again, for the fourth time, but as I was watching the match I was loving it all over again. I was disappointed with the finish because it was too easy and predictable, but other than that, this was great.
Ring Area
Immediately after the match, William Regal tells Roderick Strong that he will defend his title against both Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic in a triple threat match.
Backstage
Pete Dunne puts on his wrist tape.
Backstage
During the commercial break, the entire Undisputed Era yells at William Regal as he calmly heads to his office.
Match 5
Matt Riddle vs Bronson Reed
(referee: DA Brewer)
Result: Matt Riddle wins via pinfall after a cradle powerslam
Time: 3:04
Match Thoughts
The match was short, but both men put in a lot of work. Riddle showed some impressive strength by lifting and slamming Reed multiple times, and Reed showed resilience by kicking out after combination of strikes from Riddle. This was a nice match that was ultimately an exhibition for Riddle, though both men did look quite good.
Video
A look as the EST of NXT, Bianca Belair. The women’s division will have to go through Bianca to get to Shayna.
Match 6
Taynara vs Tegan Nox
(referee: Darryl Sharma)
Result: Tegan Nox wins via pinfall after the Shiniest Wizard
Time: 2:54
Match Thoughts
Good match. Taynara had some good takedowns and a nice boot that had Nox struggling, but Nox came back and looked very good in her return to the ring.
Ring Area
After the match, Cathy Kelley congratulates Nox on her return. Dakota Kai joins Nox, but Shayna Baszler (with Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke) interrupts Nox before she can say anything. Baszler assumes Nox wants to challenge her for the title just like everyone else, but Baszler tells Nox to ask Kai what it feels like to be in the ring with her. Besides, Nox is running out of limbs to rehab.
Backstage
A lovely lady helps Damian Priest put on his jacket while another lovely lady looks on.
Video
Finn Balor talks about retracing his steps to find his heart.
Match 7
BOA vs Killian Dain
(referee: DA Brewer)
Result: Killian Dain wins via submission with modified seated abdominal stretch
Time: 3:39
Match Thoughts
Pretty good match. BOA started with some strikes, but his burst of offense was cut short by Dain. Dain focused on BOA’s injured ribs with almost every move he did, and the finish was no surprise at all.
Video
A brief look at Lio Rush, the new Cruiserweight Champ.
Match 8
Pete Dunne vs Damian Priest
(referee: Jessika Carr)
Result: Damian Priest wins via pinfall after The Reckoning (and a low blow)
Time: 11:44 (1 break)
Match Thoughts
Good match. Not that I doubted Dunne, but this match was better than I expected. I feel like Dunne pushed Priest to be more interesting than he usually is. The finish was frustrating, but it was supposed to be, so I guess it worked.
Show Impressions
I liked the show overall, but looking back at it, a lot of the matches were short. The night seemed to be dominated by returns to action and setup for upcoming matches, so the night kind of felt underwhelming. Still, I was entertained.
Match of the Night
Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic
Despite the finish, I stil enjoyed this match the most.
