Survivor Series Predictions

Survivor Series is just a few hours away, so I thought I’d take a little time to record my predictions (so I can claim bragging rights later).

I’m looking forward to the show. I always love tournaments. I actually would have been fine with it if they had done like the 1998 Survivor Series and dedicated the whole show to the tournament (save for a couple of other title matches), but when I think back I remember some of the tournament matches on that show were extremely short. The Rock pinning Bossman in 3 seconds was pretty funny, but some of the other short matches I don’t remember being as entertained by. Still, I fondly remember the show as a whole so it couldn’t have been too bad.

They’ve only announced six matches as I’m writing this (I’m including the tournament final even though we don’t know who’ll be in it). Hopefully having so few matches means that they’ll allow a decent amount of time for all the announced matches, or that they’ll add a Survivor Series style match during the show(or during the kickoff). I could actually see one of the current matches turning into a traditional Survivor Series match. Sort of. But more on that later. On to the predictions!

Dolph Ziggler vs Tyler Breeze
I think on most shows this matchup has the potential to steal the show, but they’re facing some stiff competition here. I think this will be a very fast-paced match, but it won’t be terribly long. Tyler Breeze will come out with the victory due to a few dirty tactics and the support of Summer Rae. Dolph won his last singles match on PPV against Rusev at Night of Champions, so I think he loses here. Also, it would help Breeze more than it would hurt Ziggler for the match to go that way.
Winner: Tyler Breeze

WWE Diva’s Title Match
Paige vs Charlotte (Diva Champ)
Paige made it personal this past week, and I think Charlotte will come out very aggressive. Paige will use that to her advantage and get Charlotte off of her game, but she’ll eventually turn it around and get Paige in the Figure Eight for the win. I think will be a very good, hard-fought match with some good submission psychology.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Figure Eight (it looks kind of cool but it actually doesn’t make sense to me because the Figure Four works by applying pressure down, not up like when Charlotte does that high bridge), but it will be fun to see these two ladies trade submissions. I just wish Charlotte would fight dirty. She’s using her dad as part of what she brings to get people behind her, but Flair was always a dirty wrestler, even when he was a good guy.
Winner: Charlotte

The Brothers of Destruction vs The Wyatt Family
This is the match I would like to see change into sort of a traditional Survivor Series match. Instead of Bray picking two members of the family to fight, he picks all four and someone makes the executive decision to make it a handicap elimination match, the four members of The Wyatt Family against The Brothers of Destruction. I don’t really think any two members of the family can beat Undertaker and Kane, but I believe all four could.

That being said, even if it still goes on as a two-on-two match (which it probably will), it very likely will still essentially be a handicap match, so The Wyatt Family could still come out on top. I’d really like to see them win, but with this being Undertaker week and all, I don’t really see it happening. I’m predicting that Bray picks Strowman and Harper, and Undertaker pins Harper for the win.
Winner: The Brothers of Destruction

WWE World Heavyweight Title Tournament

Dean Ambrose vs Kevin Owens (IC Champ)
I’m predicting that this match steals the show. This will be a violent and crazy match. I see Owens with a big advantage for a good part of the match. I also see some brawling on the outside. No matter who wins, if this can transition into a feud between these two then I’ll be happy. Ultimately I think Dean Ambrose wins this one. I think the story building up to this show really needs Ambrose versus Reigns for the title. Of course, they could go a different way and it would still be good, it just seems that’s the way they’re headed.
Winner: Dean Ambrose

Roman Reigns vs Alberto Del Rio (US Champ)
I love the guy, but I can’t see Del Rio winning this. I don’t think he’ll be the second person to ever hold the US and World Heavyweight title at the same time, and I don’t see him knocking Reigns out of this tournament. Reigns, with his refusal to accept a free pass, is really the main story of this tournament as I see it. This will be a good match, but maybe not as good as some of the others on the show. There’s potential for a lot of really good matches on this show.
Winner: Roman Reigns

Final Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
I think it will be Ambrose versus Reigns and Ambrose will win it. Reign’s winning is probably the safe bet, but I think it would be more interesting to have Ambrose win it over him. On Smackdown the two of them talked about doing whatever that have to do, even against each other, to win the title, but I really want to see how they react when one of them actually beats the other one. I think Ambrose would actually fine if Reigns won, but I’d like to see Reigns start to get a little upset and maybe slowly progress to fighting more like a heel.

It makes sense when I think about it. He failed to win the title at Wrestlemania because of Rollins. He hasn’t been able to win it since. He was number one contender but Rollins got hurt and Reigns refused the easy way to the title. If Ambrose wins then maybe Reigns thinks he made a mistake by refusing Triple H. Plus, that means he would be the only former member of The Shield that hasn’t won the title. Of course, a lot of these arguments could be said for Ambrose losing as well, but I think people might react better to Reigns if he changes up his character a little. People already seem to be solidly behind Ambrose.

Maybe I’m putting too much thought into it. I just want Ambrose to win, okay?
Winner: Dean Ambrose
