Match 1
Mae Young Classic 2018 First Round Match
Deonna Purrazzo vs Priscilla Kelly
(referee: DA Brewer)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Deonna Purrazzo wins via submission with a Fujiwara arm bar
Time: 4:28

Match Thoughts
Pretty good match. It was fairly even throughout, though Purrazzo definitely looked more in-control and polished with her moves. I would have liked to see this match go on longer, because as it is it felt kind of short. Even so, I liked it, and it was a good first match for Purrazzo. Seeing her emotional reaction after the match was nice.

Match 2
Mae Young Classic 2018 First Round Match
Zeuxis vs Aerial Monroe
(referee: Eddie Orengo)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Zeuxis wins via pinfall after a tope rope Spanish Fly
Time: 5:07

Match Thoughts
This was okay. Monroe and Zeuxis never really felt like they got completely on the same page. Some moves didn’t look like they quite came together, they both ducked when they were running the ropes, and shoulders weren’t pinned down completely most of the time. I think Monroe is fun and Zeuxis has at least one good move I saw, but hopefully we’ll see more in the next round.

Getting to know Reina Gonzalez and Kacy Katanzaro.

Match 3
Mae Young Classic 2018 First Round Match
Kacy Catanzaro vs Reina Gonzalez
(referee: Tom Castor)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Kacy Catanzaro wins via pinfall with a wheelbarrow victory roll
Time: 4:46

Match Thoughts
Pretty good match. Kacy Catanzaro can do some very fun things. I’m not sure what she can really do as far as putting together a match though, because this match mostly just featured Catanzaro getting beat up until she managed to find space to do a dive or flip. It worked for her this time, but I feel like it might wear thin. I think Reina Gonzalez did well for her role in this which was to play Goliath to Catanzaro’s David.

Ring Area
Getting reacquainted with Mercedes Martinez and Ashley Rayne.

Ring Area
The Undisputed Era is in the crowd.

Match 4
Mae Young Classic 2018 First Round Match
Ashley Rayne vs Mercedes Martinez
(referee: Jessika Carr)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Mercedes Martinez wins via pinfall after a fisherman buster
Time: 7:32

Match Thoughts
Good match. Martinez looked good in this. Rayne was fine, but it looked like she was doing her best to keep up with Martinez at times. There was one move early in the match that felt like it didn’t go as planned, but it still worked really well for the match. Late in the match it felt a little strange when Rayne hit a diving cross body but didn’t go for the pin, but that was really the only thing I could nitpick. I liked this, and I’m very much looking forward to the second round match for the winner of this one.

Show Impressions
I think week one was better, but there was still some fun to be had on tonights show.

Match of the Night
Ashley Rayne vs Mercedes Martinez
Unsurprisingly, this was the most compelling match of the night, and it had the best action.
