TAKA, like his previous tournament match, started strong. He went after Ishimori’s injured neck as best as he could, and TAKA’s attack sent Ishimori reeling. Ishimori used his strength to eventually build a quick comeback though. It seemed clear that Ishimori wanted to win this as quickly as possible considering not only his hurt neck, but also the next few night of the tour where all the competitors will have tournament matches every single night.

Match 2
Best of the Super Jr. 26 B Block Match
Ren Narita (0-3-0: 0) vs Bandido (1-2-0: 2)
(referee: Kenta Sato)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Bandido wins via pinfall after the 21 Plex
Time: 6:19

Match Thoughts
Very good match! This surprised me a little. It was a must-win for Bandido, and it really could have been a relatively easy win. However, Narita seems to keep getting more and more confidence as the tournament goes on. Narita threw Bandido off a few times early in the match, and the openings Narita created for himself allowed him to hit a huge belly to belly on the apron. Bandido knew that he had to come back strong, and boy did he come back strong. Bandido hit Narita with a series of moves that would have put most of the men in this tournament away. Titan tried to match Gresham hold for hold, and though Titan did very, very well, Gresham is better than pretty much everyone in a technical battle. Titan eventually started to throw in some strikes and power moves, but by that point Gresham had already done a lot of damage. Watching Gresham apply holds and then transition and modify them to fit his situation is beautiful. I love watching him in front of a Japanese audience as well. They’re typically fairly quiet, then they’ll notice something small that Gresham does and you’ll hear an “oooh” from the crowd that will get louder as they get more into the match.

For his part, Titan is no slouch in the technical department either. Titan’s finishers are both pretty complex and difficult to describe via text. El Phantasmo is so easy to hate and so fun to watch, and this match is a perfect example of that. ELP practically matched Ospreay move for move as far as the high flying goes in this match, and there was quite a lot of high flying. Ospreay had a large advantage in terms of strength and power moves, but neither man was willing to go down easy tonight. Both men took tons of damage, and they both kept fighting. ELP had to resort to some very dirty tricks as the match closed in on the thirty minute mark, but that just added to the tension and made me pull for Ospreay even harder. I think this was a star-making match for El Phantasmo, at least in NJPW.

Show Impressions
I really enjoyed this show.
