Both teams went back and forth to start the match, but the Bucks were slowed down considerably when Nick Jackson missed a kick and ended up hurting his leg. From that point on, Nick struggled to remain a viable force in the match. The Bucks tend to push each other to perform even when hurt, and Matt did that to Nick throughout the rest of the match. Nick had some moments of good offense, but Santana and Ortiz were strong and smart. They capitalized on Nick’s weakness and forced the Bucks to dig deep as the match went longer.

Overall I think the match was good, though it did feel a little odd at times. Rick Knox made a questionable call early in the match that distracted me for a while, and Ortiz kept having to mess with his ring gear as his overalls didn’t want to stay up. Other than those minor things though, this was a well-done match.

Ring Area
After the match, Sammy Guevara joins Santana and Ortiz in the ring. Page started strong by overpowering Pac, but Pac came back quickly with a smart and powerful attack. Pac was able to counter many of Page’s signature moves, and Pac punished Page in a brutal fashion. Page started to find some sustained offense later in the match, but Pac kept finding ways to hurt Page. This was a great back and forth battle from two very tough guys (guys who can also fly when they want to). I think this was a good climax to their feud. Hopefully they can come back to each other later, but for now, I think they should both go find another feud to start.

Video
Before the show, Awesome Kong and Brandi Rhodes took a lock of Bea Priestley’s hair.

Match 3
“The Chairman” Shawn Spears w/ Tully Blanchard vs “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela
(referee: Earl Hebner)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Shawn Spears wins via pinfall after a death valley driver
Time: 11:43

Match Thoughts
Good match. I felt like it took a couple of minutes for the three teams to gel and start working together well, but once the match got going it was very entertaining. As with a lot of her matches, RIHO took a lot of punishment. Sakura was able to overpower RIHO for a large part of this match. RIHO had to make her moments of offense count, so she hit some very high-impact moves when she could. Sakura kept coming back though, and that led to a fast-paced exchange of pin attempts that either woman could have realistically come out of as the winner. This was a lot of fun. I don’t think anyone expected RIHO to lose tonight, but the match made you think that she could as Sakura kept punishing her.

Video
Buildup for the AEW World Title match between Cody and Jericho.

Match 6
AEW World Title Match
“The American Nightmare” Cody w/ MJF vs Chris Jericho (AEW World Champ) w/ Jake Hager
(referee: Aubrey Edwards; judges: Dean Malenko, Arn Anderson, The Great Muta)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Chris Jericho wins via forfeit when MJF throws in the towel
Time: 29:38

Match Thoughts
Great match. Jericho and Cody were having a nice back-and-forth battle, but a bad fall from Cody put this match in a different light. Cody dove out of the ring fairly early in the match, but he landed on his face on the ramp. Cody was busted open, and from that point on he was in survival mode. Cody absorbed a ton of punishment. Even though he fought back well and had Jericho reeling at times, Jericho kept pulling further and further ahead as the match went longer. A series of submission attempts from Jericho put Cody’s chances into serious doubt as the match neared its finish. This was a pretty emotional match for a few different reasons, and the finish will definitely have a lot of fallout.

Ring Area
After the match, the rest of the Inner Circle come out and carry Jericho away. This was full of weapons, violence, and more than a little blood. Both men made repeated trips under the ring to grab more and more implements of destruction, but even though that did slow the pace of the match, the action was so good that it didn’t really matter. Moxley and Omega got rather innovative with some of their violence, but they didn’t do anything too elaborate so that it didn’t make sense. They both gave a very good impressions that they wanted to destroy each other in the most painful way possible. I definitely had someone I was pulling for to win, but I would have been fine with either way the match went. This was a memorable match that highlighted a very good night of wrestling.

Show Impressions
This was a very good show.
