“Hail to the Crown” by CFO$ featuring From Ashes to New

Match 1
Drew Gulak w/ Gentleman Jack Gallagher vs The Brian Kendrick w/ Akira Tozawa
(referee: Danilo Anfibio)

Show/Hide Results

Result: The Brian Kendrick wins via DQ when Jack Gallagher attacks him
Time: 8:49

Match Thoughts
Very good match. There was a lot of mat wrestling in this, and both men looked very good. Gulak in particular stood out. Gulak has some really great counters and transitions, and he twisted Kendrick up in some unique ways. Gulak dominated a lot of this match, though Kendrick did get some sudden offense here and there. I’m looking forward to seeing this matchup again.

Ring Area
Gallagher continues to attack Kendrick after the match. Kendrick fights back, but that allows Gulak to come from behind and put Kendrick in the GuLock. Gallagher keeps Tozawa away with a headbutt as Gulak decides he’s punished Kendrick enough for now.

Backstage
Drake Maverick sits down with Buddy Murphy. Maverick talks about Murphy’s upcoming title defense against Cedric Alexander, but Murphy says Mustafa Ali is his toughest opponent. Murphy says that next week, he and Alexander should have matches against opponents of Maverick’s choosing.

Match 2
Ariya Daivari vs Clay Roberts
(referee: Charles Robinson; watching in the back: Hideo Itami)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Ariya Daivari wins via referee stoppage after a series of lariats
Time: 1:47

Match Thoughts
Daivari did something similar to what Itami has done and beat up his opponent until the referee had to stop the match. It was interesting for the story aspect more than the action in the ring.

Backstage
Mustafa Ali says that we all fall. The hard part is getting back up. He lost at Survivor Series, but now is his chance to get back up. Last week was a good start, and whenever Ali gets another chance at the title, he will be fighting for his life.

Backstage
Kayla Braxton welcomes Cedric Alexander. Alexander says he doesn’t care about Buddy Murphy and his childish mind games. He says he is on the cusp of being a two-time champ, and he is up for the challenge that Buddy Murphy proposed earlier tonight.

Selfie Promo
Noam Dar issues a challenge to Buddy Murphy after Murphy’s actions during Dar’s recent match with Tony Nese.

Match 3
Tornado Tag Team Match
Kalisto & Lince Dorado vs Mike Kanellis w/ Maria Kanellis & TJP
(referee: Mike Chioda)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Lince Dorado pins TJP after Salida Del Sol (Kalisto) and a shooting star press (Dorado)
Time: 14:11

Match Thoughts
Good match. As I expected, I really liked the fast-paced action in this one. The match did get kind of silly towards the end though. Lucha House Party brought out some small piñatas and used them like thumbtacks in the ring. It was kind of fun, but it was also pretty goofy. They teased the piñatas hard before finally using them, and another piñata played a major role in the finish.

Selfie Promo
Tony Nese says he has Cedric Alexander’s number. Next week, Nese will beat Alexander so badly that he will never recover.

Show Impressions
Good show. I think the selfie promo after the last match was an unusual programming choice, but it didn’t bother me. I’d also like to see another match between Lucha House Party and the Kanellis/TJP team. This was a god match, but I think they can have something more serious that would be more in line with the heated nature of how the rivalry started. This started by TJP and then Mike Kanellis disrespecting LHP ad luchadore culture. I think a non-piñata match might be more fitting as a feud-ender.

Match of the Night
Drew Gulak vs The Brian Kendrick
Even with the DQ finish, I enjoyed the mat battle in this match more than tonight’s main event.
