Buddy Murphy (Cruiserweight Champ) vs Gran Metalik
(referee: Charles Robinson)
Result: Buddy Murphy wins via pinfall after Murphy’s Law
Great match. This easily could have been the main event of any 205 Live, and it could have been a quality title match as well. Murphy seemed to come into the match without too many worries, but Metalik to the fight to him. Metalik looked great, and that forced Murphy to look great as well (not that he ever doesn’t do a great job). The last few minutes were exciting. Even knowing that Metalik surely wouldn’t win, there were some near falls that had me going. There were a few believable finishing sequences in this match, and they were all great.
Drake Maverick tells The Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa that it’s ironic that they will face Gulak and Gallagher in a tag team street fight next week. Kendrick says that when he and Tozawa had their street fight against each other, Kendrick was tearing down 205 Live because he was upset about his dreams being crushed. But now, Kendrick wants to build up 205 Live. He is a changed man. Tozawa agrees that Kendrick has changed, but he says it’s a problem that he still looks the same. Tozawa says he has a solution for that, and the two men walk off.
Genteleman Jack Gallagher and Drew Gulak say they were trying to save Kendrick when they attacked him. Maybe Kendrick just doesn’t belong in 205 Live anymore. Gulak and Gallagher are both looking forward to doing whatever they want in next week’s street fight.
Kayla Braxton welcomes Ariya Daivari. Daivari says wrestling used to be simple. You would take two men and put them in the ring until ine comes out the winner. Wrestling is more about flash than fight now, and Daivari is back to change that. Hideo Itami walks up. Itami tells Daivari that he did a good job last week, and the two men shake hands.
Tony Nese vs Cedric Alexander
(referee: Danilo Anfibio)
Result: Cedric Alexander wins via pinfall after the Lumbar Check
Good match. This was a highly entertaining battle of speed and strength. Both men looked good, and the match was fought evenly. Nese had some good counters and reversals early in the match which allowed Alexander to make a comeback throughout the duration of the bout. Nese proved once again that he could always be in title contention, and Alexander showed again why he has been at the top of the division for most of this year.
After the match, Buddy Murphy comes out to the stage. After taking off his title belt, Murphy runs down to the ring. Alexander fights Murphy out of the ring and dives onto the champ, and Murphy decides to back off.
I really like this show. Both matches were over ten minutes long, and both were very good. This show made the Cruiserweight Title, and the upcoming title rematch, feel very important.
Match of the Night
Buddy Murphy vs Gran Metalik
It’s difficult to choose between tonight’s matches, but my gut reaction is that I enjoyed the opening match more than the main event. That might change when I rewatch the show, but that’s what I’m going with right now.
