Chris Jericho makes a surprise return to SmackDown and to the US Title picture in a good episode of SmackDown that begins to set the stage for Summer Slam.
There were ups and downs, but overall Battleground 2017 was a good show with at least one great match!
Tye Dillinger attempts to silence Aiden English in a surprsingly good warmup match on a decent pre-show for this year’s Battleground PPV.
Drew Gulak and Mustafa Ali attempt to settle their differences in a great 2 out of 3 falls match on an episode of 205 Live that also featured Akira Tozawa attempting to get a win over Ariya Daivari despite his injured shoulder.
The final SmackDown Live before Battleground managed to build some nice interest in the PPV and contained a few enjoyable matches.
Cedric Alexander and Noam Dar settle their differences in an I Quit match on a very good episode of 205 Live.
AJ Styles is the new United States champ after a win at a live event at Madison Square Garden, but Owens doesn’t like it when Styles issues an open challenge for his new title. Also, with less than two weeks until Battleground, the card continues to form in an episode of SmackDown that feels rather forgettable, but sets up some matches and story lines heading into the big show.
Rich Swann faces TJP in some “friendly competition,” Jack Gallagher gets another chance to defeat Tony Nese, and Neville gives Titus O’Neil a message for Tozawa in a good episode of 205 Live.
AJ Styles battles Chad Gable to determine who will enter an Independence Day battle royal, The Usos face New Day in a surprisingly entertaining rap battle, Lana gets another title shot, and John Cena returns on a good episode of SmackDown Live!
Cedric Alexander faces Ariya Daivari, Drew Gulak takes some risks against Mustafa Ali, and The Brian Kendrick mocks Jack Gallagher in a good episode of 205 Live.
The women’s Money in the Bank contract is put up for grabs once again as they redo the MitB ladder match that was ruined by James Ellsworth at the PPV.
This felt like another week of treading the same territory, but it was still a pretty good show highlighted by a very nice main event match between Rich Swann and Neville.
Daniel Bryan makes a decision about the “controversial” women’s Money in the Bank match, Kevin Owens issues and open challenge, Dolph Ziggler takes on Shinsuke Nakamura, and more take place on this pretty good (sometimes very good) episode of SmackDown Live.
Despite some good action, the overall feeling of this year’s Money in the Bank felt a little disappointing on multiple levels.
Zack Ryder returns to the ring as the Hype Bros face The Colons and the Kickoff for this year’s Money in the Bank PPV.
Cedric Alexander can’t seem to get away from Noam Dar and Alicia Fox , and Akira Tozawa faces TJP in the main event of a nice episode of 205 Live.
The last stop before Money in the Bank had four good matches and some nice buildup for the show.
TJP finally gets the title shot he’s been waiting for in an episode of 205 Live that also featured an apparently definitive end to the Dar/Alexander/Fox saga.
This felt like a pre-show for Extreme Rules (which it kind of is), but it still managed to have a couple of decent matches.
