One night after putting RAW under siege, Shane McMahon returns to SmackDown and, along with Daniel Bryan, begins to build his teams for Survivor Series.
With a couple of non-title matches and a lot of talking, this week’s SmackDown was pretty good, but not as good as last week.
Styles puts his newly won US Title on the line against Owens and Cena faces Nakamura to see who will challenge for the WWE Title at Summer Slam in a good episode of SmackDown!
TJP and Rich Swann add Tony Nese and Cedric Alexander to their “friendly competition” in a very good match on an okay episode of Live.
Chris Jericho makes a surprise return to SmackDown and to the US Title picture in a good episode of SmackDown that begins to set the stage for Summer Slam.
There were ups and downs, but overall Battleground 2017 was a good show with at least one great match!
Tye Dillinger attempts to silence Aiden English in a surprsingly good warmup match on a decent pre-show for this year’s Battleground PPV.
The women’s Money in the Bank contract is put up for grabs once again as they redo the MitB ladder match that was ruined by James Ellsworth at the PPV.
This felt like another week of treading the same territory, but it was still a pretty good show highlighted by a very nice main event match between Rich Swann and Neville.
Daniel Bryan makes a decision about the “controversial” women’s Money in the Bank match, Kevin Owens issues and open challenge, Dolph Ziggler takes on Shinsuke Nakamura, and more take place on this pretty good (sometimes very good) episode of SmackDown Live.
Despite some good action, the overall feeling of this year’s Money in the Bank felt a little disappointing on multiple levels.
Cedric Alexander can’t seem to get away from Noam Dar and Alicia Fox , and Akira Tozawa faces TJP in the main event of a nice episode of 205 Live.
The last stop before Money in the Bank had four good matches and some nice buildup for the show.
The Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa meet in a memorable street fight to try to settle their differences.
Even though half the matches on this show were nearly exactly the same, I enjoyed this show. The competitors for the 2017 Money in the Bank match are named (and fight) and Breezango works their way into a tag title rematch!
This year’s Backlash wasn’t great, but it did have some entertaining matches and a few mild surprises.
The last SmackDown before Backlash didn’t provide anything new, but it had a pretty good opening match and a fun new episode of Breezango’s “Fashion Files.”
A very good show with a great balance of very entertaining matches and many significant storyline segments.
A big six-man tag match highlights a pretty good episode of SmackDown that also featured a special London edition of “Fashion Files” and a great promo from The Usos.
This episode was light on story, but the matches more than made up for that.
