Mike and Maria Kanellis head to the ring. Maria says the audience is disrespectful and rude just like Drake Maverick. Maverick threatened Mike’s job if he lost tonight, but Maria says Mike isn’t going to lose.

Mike Kanellis w/ Maria Kanellis vs Akira Tozawa

Result: Mike Kanellis wins via pinfall after a rolling cutter (and a distraction from Maria)

Match Thoughts
Good match. Kanellis looked good as usual, but it also appeared that the match was going the way his matches have usually gone recently. Maria played a much larger role in the finish of the match tonight though, and that made a huge difference.
Backstage
Kayla Braxton asks Cedric Alexander about his mindset going into his match tonight. Alexander feels good. He plans to do exactly what he did last year: win the tournament and go to Wrestlemania.
Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese walk up. Nese says he’s better than he’s ever been, but Alexander is still the same as always. Alexander says he never needed to become the champ’s sidekick to get close to the title. Nese says he is no one’s side kick. Murphy reminds Alexander about how many times he’s beaten Alexander.
Alexander wonders would happen if Nese did challenge Murphy for the title. Things get awkward between Nese and Murphy.

Match Thoughts
Great match. They gave Nese and Alexander plenty of time for this match, so they were able to slowly build up the intensity as it went along. The pace gradually picked up, and moves began to get bigger and more sudden. The final few minutes of the match were really great. This was a huge match for Nese, and he and Alexander both made it memorable.
Ring Area
After the match, Cedric Alexander shakes Tony Nese’s hand. Alexander leaves, and Nese celebrates.
After a while, Buddy Murphy heads to the ring. Murphy hugs nese and holds his hand in the air. Murphy points to the Wrestlemania sign, and when Nese turns away from Murphy to look at the sign as well, Murphy attacks Nese from behind.
Show Impressions
A good show with a great main event. I’m sad that Alexander won’t be heading back to Wrestlemania, but I can’t help but feel happy for Nese. It’s going to be a great match.
