Match 1
Aliyah w/ Vanessa Borne vs Mia Yim
(referee: Drake Wuertz)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Mia Yim wins via pinfall after Protect Ya Neck
Time: 4:52

Match Thoughts
Pretty good match. This wasn’t a very difficult match for Yim, but Aliyah looked fine for what she and Vanessa do.

Ring Area
After the match, Mia Yim goes over to the commentary table and tells them to let Shayna know that she is coming for the NXT Women’s Title.

Backstage
Cathy Kelley asks William Regal for an update on Candice LeRae. As Regal attempts to answer, the Forgotten Sons barge into his office. They demand a tag title match. Regal tells them that they had an opportunity, but they decided to get disqualified. So now they have to go to the back of the queue. The Forgotten Sons don’t like being disrespected, and they leave Regal’s office angry.

Cathy asks Regal if he has a team in mid to challenge the Street Profits for the titles. Regal says Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch will be getting the next title match.

Video
Adam Cole’s Bay Bay Championship Tour continues. He visits Gargano’s Pizza and hangs his own picture on the wall next to Johnny Gargano’s. Cole then visits a wrestling school that Gargano recently visited. Cole tells the wrestlers that Gargano is full of crap when he says you can achieve anything you work hard enough for. Gargano was being mean when he gave them hope that they could become NXT Champ someday. Cole tells them all to just give up and find a new hero.

Match 2
Jeff Parker vs KUSHIDA
(referee: DA Brewer)

Show/Hide Results

Result: KUSHIDA wins via submission with the Sakuraba Lock (Hoverboard Lock/Kimura Lock)
Time: 2:34

Match Thoughts
This was very short. It was a squash for KUSHIDA. I think the biggest thing of note in this match is that it seems like they’re going to start calling KUSHIDA’s Hoverboard Lock the Sakuraba Lock. They said “Sakuraba Lock” like five or six times near the end of the match.

Backstage
Cathy Kelley asks Tyler Breeze for his thoughts heading into his match with Roderick Strong. Breeze thinks that he needs to remind the Undisputed Era that NXT was his before they ever stepped foot in an NXT ring.

Video
A promo video for Killian Dain.

Match 3
NXT Breakout Tournament First Round Match
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs Cameron Grimes
(referee: Drake Wuertz)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Cameron Grimes wins via pinfall after a leaping double stomp
Time: 8:33

Match Thoughts
Good match. Both men brought some unique moves to this match, and they were both fighting hard. Swerve had some very fun ways of getting around the ring and over the ropes. He’s definitely more of an agile, high-risk wrestler. Grimes was a bit more grounded, and he landed some big moves throughout the match. This was fun, and I’d like to see more of both guys.

Match 4
Zuniga vs Bianca Belair
(referee: Jessika Carr)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Bianca Belair wins via pinfall after the KOD
Time: 2:12

Match Thoughts
This was a squash, but I think it was good as a reset for Belair after her recent losses.

Backstage
Roderick Strong prepares for his match.

Video
A look at Matt Riddle as he trains in various fighting styles.

Match 5
Roderick Strong vs Tyler Breeze
(referee: Eddie Orengo)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Roderick Strong wins via pinfall after End of Heartache (and a distraction from Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly)
Time: 11:23

Match Thoughts
Very good match. There were some shenanigans at the very end, but otherwise this was a very good match from two pretty different wrestlers. The match was going well, then things picked up considerably when Strong threw Breeze back-first onto the corner of the ring steps. Breeze struggled to regain his momentum from that point on, and it was an entertaining uphill battle for Breeze all the way to the end.

Show Impressions
There were a lot of matches tonight which I like, but that also means a lot of those matches will be squashes. The two serious matches tonight (the main event and the tournament match) were very good though, and that made the whole show fun to watch.

Match of the Night
Strong vs Breeze
Breeze continues to prove that returning to NXT was the best idea for him and for the fans.
