Match 1
Anna Jay vs “Superbad” Penelope Ford w/ Kip Sabian
(referee: Paul Turner)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Penelope Ford wins via pinfall with a bridging fisherman suplex
Time: 5:05

Match Thoughts
Good match. Jay was confident, but Ford’s strength (and a little help from Sabian) carried her to a reasonably easy victory. The commentators said this was Anna Jay’s AEW debut, but she had a match on Dynamite recently against Hikaru Shida. Still, this match was taped prior to Jay’s Dynamite match, so I guess technically it was Jay’s debut in real time, though not on TV. Also, Jay’s last name was changed from “Jayy” to “Jay” in this episode, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see which spelling they go with.

Double or Nothing is coming in May.

Match 2
Joe Alonzo vs “The American Nightmare” Cody w/ Brandi Rhodes
(referee: Paul Turner)

Show/Hide Results

Result: Cody wins via submission with an inverted sharpshooter
Time: 4:13

Match Thoughts
Good match. Cody wanted some friendly competition, but Alonzo tried to take advantage of Cody during a handshake, so Coy made him pay. Easy night for Cody.

Show Impressions
This was fine. The show was taped at Daily’s Place, which means it happened before the most recent few episodes of Dyanmite and Dark. Maybe these were backup matches they weren’t going to show unless they ran out of other matches to show. They did seem to record an awful lot of squash matches at Daily’s Place (considering the first empty-arena episode of Dark had six matches), so I guess they had some extras banked just in case.

Match of the Night
Anna Jay vs Penelope Ford
I think this was the more interesting match tonight. I think Cody’s great, but he had no trouble with Alonzo. Ford versus Jay was at least a little bit competitive.
